Energy Efficiency Certificate

The energy efficiency certificate is a document signed by the competent technician that contains information on the energy characteristics of a building or part of it. It is valid for 10 years and the homeowner is responsible for renewing or updating it. According to article 5.6 of Royal Decree 235/2013, it must be submitted to the competent body of the Autonomous Community for the registration of these certifications.

Obtaining the energy efficiency certificate grants the right of use during its validity period. This label must contain the registration number assigned by each Autonomous Community.

The energy certificate, mandatory to sell or rent a home

Since mid-2013, all owners who want to sell or rent their home must have an energy efficiency certificate. If it is a sale, the seller must deliver it to the new owner. If it is a lease, the landlord must show and give a copy to the new tenant. To obtain it, the owner must contact a competent professional who issues the certificate.
