El Club Mediterráneo de Málaga cumple 150 años

The Mediterranean Club of Malaga turns 150 years old: a benchmark for the world of nautical sports
150 years ago a group of young sports fans who were related to the sea decided to create a club whose first objective was the practice of rowing. Specifically, it was on September 20, 1873 when they decided to embark on this feat without knowing that their idea was going to become the oldest club in Spain today and a reference for the world of nautical sports throughout Andalusia and part of Spain.

Its first president was Tomás Heredia and in 1892 they contacted King Alfonso XIII to offer him the honorary presidency of the club. The monarch accepted and was granted the use of the crown and the royal title, thus becoming the only center to wear the red and yellow colors and the royal crown on its shield. In this way it also became known as the Royal Mediterranean Club due to the king's honorary presidency. This club has always been linked to the activity of the port of Malaga and has always been close to another emblematic place in Malaga, La Farola.
